hello sweethearts! REV IT UP time! This week it is all about ADVENTURE. And I really need to adventure more! So Adventure Await is my title for this art journaling page. I did come up with any written journaling. Just the title is enough for me AND I did not want to put words on my gorgeous background :). Sometimes that happens. And that is all good. You can create whatever you want, however you want. You do NOT need to explain to anybody what you are creating and why. Create what you feel, how you feel, and how you like it <3.
for now, here’s to another week, another creative play for you!
Prompt: ADVENTURE
Exercise: make marks!
I came up with this page
How did I make this page?
I got my favorite art journal out, and than decided to use:
- watercolors from Winsor & Newton
- Ecoline Brush Pens (601, 337, 602)
- Posca Pens (yellow, pink, light blue (all PC-1M bullet shapet 0.7 mm)
- stazOn black ink
- different sorts of stamps
- on the picture you see a bottle of White Ecoline, but I forgot to use that!
- grey pen for journaling (I have used Staedler Triplus Fineliner
- white pen (my new favorite: Molotow acrylivc 127HS-CO, 16 signal white, bullet shapet)
- little scissor
- brush
- pencil & eraser
- piece of watercolor paper (for the title)
- glue
get out your watercolors. I decide for yellow, turquoise, greens and pink for the background.
just start adding color to the background. don’t think too much here. or actually: don’t think at all!
I LOVE how the water let’s the watercolor play with the colors and make unique new colors!
Just fill your complete page with color! don’t worry too much if things run in different directions: hello watercolors!
If your background is dry (or speed this process up with your heatgun), get out your ink. I prefer StazOn ink because it does not react with the watercolors and dries quickly. And get out your stamps. Stars, strips, hearts, scribbles, butterflies, any stamp you can use in the background!
Now randomly add your stamps. In this process I don’t think too much again. Notice a pattern here? hehe, shut up your mind and get creative with your hands. You can see the stamp XOXOXO, which I have used repeatedly. With this technique, the stamps are part of the background. So you do NOT need to stamp a ‘perfect’ stamp. You can use as little or as much ink as you like. You can stamp half or parts. Just fill up that page 🙂
now it’s time for your MARK MAKING. When I am using lots of different colors in the background, like here, I want to try to combine my complete page. I find that if I use the same color & same sort of mark on a colored background, that it makes it more ‘cohesive’. So for example: every where I have a pink background, I get out my pink posca pen and create little circles. ONLY on the pink backgrounds.
repeat that for every colored background. So on the blue I have decided to use yellow stripes. So I make yellow stripes on every part of my blue background. For the green white dots. Etc. Etc. You’ll notice it is not ‘just’ a busy background, but it makes some sort of sense 😉
taking a coffee break outside is ALWAYS a good idea. Mr. Jack Sparrow is never far away, and when he sees me, he NEEDS to sit on my lap or against me. He just loves to connect this way <3.
I have used the Ecoline Brushpens to add color to the stars. I love the bright colors of the Ecoline Brush Pens. Than I have added water to make it even more yummy.
See that big blob of water? LOVE. have to wait till it dries up though (I prefer the look of watercolors dried ‘on there own’ in stead of using my heatgun.
adding Posca Pen marks to the center of the O’s of the XOXOXO stamp. Using the same color as the background.
Green +’s on the light green. Also more use of the Ecoline Brush Pens on the top star (pink) and on all the butterflies :).
Love to let the colors drip.
Just add enough water, tilt your art journal and let it drip.
needed more yellow stripes on my blue background.
I am really happy with how my background is turning out!
hehe. see the yummy chocolate in the background. yes. I needed chocolate 😉
now onto the title! I have used my pencil to write my word first. Than I will add Ecoline Brush Pens and than water.
I LOVE this effect! Yes, I DO color outside of the lines. catch me if you can 😉
add light green on the top of the letters, and turquoise on the bottom. Than slightly add water with a real small brush 🙂
cut out your title by hand.
I wanted the title to stand out a bit more, so I have added an outline with my Staedler grey fineliner. Make sure your work is dry, otherwise the fineliner will react with the wet brush pen and leak through.
Rapapa! Another art journal page done <3.
