hello sweethearts! this is the 3rd DARE already, and I am so happy to see all your posts coming by on social media. especially when you tell me you love the dares, you have found me-time and are happy creating (again). mission accomplished! not that I am quite finished yet! ha! I hope to keep on going with this for a longgggg time!
here’s to another week, another creative play for you!
Prompt: LETTING GO
Exercise: use your favorite song (in one way or another 🙂
I came up with this page
(and no I did not use the words “letting go” in the title, but the song means “letting go” for me. So, you can use this dare however you want. You do not need to use the exact words. It is all up to you & your imagination really 🙂
How did I make this page?
I got my favorite art journal out, and of course my favorite watercolors (Jane Davenport, the Classics from Prima Marketing and my big set from Winsor & Newton), a brush, a white marker and some fabric and embellishments!
First get your paint on paper! I decided to use my favorite greens and blues. At this part I am not thinking to much. Not thinking if the colors will match, not thinking if the run into one another (they will), and not thinking to work ‘neatly’. and that’s what creating means to me. FREEDOM to create and let things happen.
when you are happy with your ‘background’ let it dry, or use your favorite heatgun to speed up the process a bit 🙂
next up: create your own embellishments! I have been doing this for ages, and this is such a relaxing part of creating for me. I just love to layer little rounds of fabric and than top it off with a button, wood veneer, punched paper butterfly or whatever I have lying around! As you can see I have a small batch of cut fabric. Usually I have a big bowl, and when I’m watching some Netflix I do need to do something with my hands (otherwise those hands are gonna grab chips & chocolate ;). And it is very relaxing to sew those embellishments together. And you’ve got something to do while watching TV, and you have a big bowl of embellishments to grab from when creating. Win win, amIright?!
so this time I had not a big bowl filled up yet, so needed to create those embellishment myself. Simple needle + thread and sew them with a simple stitch together.
and then it will look something like this. I place them in a ‘triangle’. that seems to be pleasant for the eye to look at 🙂
onto the title! I’ve chosen to write the title in watercolors by hand and I want the title of my art journal page to be the title of the song. I’m in love with Rollercoaster by Danny Vera. It just makes me feel loved in some sort of way.
I write my title by hand, and than cut it out by hand also. It takes a little practice but once you are used to it, you are getting better at it, promise 🙂
I wanted my embellishments to stand out a bit more, so I simply drew a few loose circles around them (with the same watercolors I have used for the background). Make sure they are light against dark, or dark against light to make them stand out.
and here comes my favorite white pen (unibal Signo broad0 to write the lyrics. I chose the first few sentences because they just mean a lot to me. You can use this assignment however you like and however you want.
and there you go! wrote the first few sentences of the lyrics. If you are not sure if things will fit onto your page, than simply write the words down on a blank sheet of (printer) paper to see if everything will fit. Usually I can make it fit. And sometimes I mess up. That’s life too.
a few closeups of the page
and tada! There it is completely finished!
